Crawford County approves Good Friday closure, pays lawncare invoice and sets budget timing

On motion (26-156) by Commissioner Tom Moody, seconded by Commissioner Bruce Blair, the board voted to close the courthouse in observance of Good Friday. Commissioner Carl Wood voted no; the motion passed 2-1.
Commissioner Carl Wood raised a request to pay a higher fuel charge to S&B Lawncare for recent mowing; Director of Fiscal Services Randi Ryan said staff will manage payments and reconcile contract terms. On motion (26-157) by Commissioner Carl Wood, seconded by Commissioner Tom Moody, the board approved paying S&B Lawncare $120 for mowing the courthouse and Extension Office. The motion passed 3-0.
Later the board recessed into a 10-minute executive session (26-158) under K.S.A. 75-4319(b)(1) to discuss a non-elected personnel matter regarding an early office closure; the board reconvened with no public action taken.
On administrative scheduling, Ms. Ryan said she will send budget information to department heads in the first week of May but can begin processing earlier using March 31 as a cutoff and begin work in April if the board wants to accelerate the timetable.
What happens next: staff will process the approved payments and contracts and return any needed budget materials and contract changes to the board for confirmation.
