Director of Fiscal Services Randi Ryan opened the chip-and-seal oil bids and Road and Bridge Coordinator Alyssa Edwards read the submissions from Wright Asphalt, Ergon Asphalt & Emulsions Inc., Coastal Energy Corporation and Vance Brothers. Commissioners noted Wright Asphalt submitted the only fog-seal bid and that Wright’s prices were the lowest for the items requested.
On motion (26-154) by Commissioner Tom Moody, seconded by Commissioner Carl Wood, the board approved Wright Asphalt as the low bidder for chip-and-seal oil. The motion passed 3-0.
The board later considered asphalt bids and, on motion (26-155) by Commissioner Tom Moody, seconded by Commissioner Carl Wood, approved Emery Sapp & Sons as the low bidder for asphalt and authorized the chairman to sign the contract. The motion passed 3-0.
County staff will finalize award paperwork and follow standard procurement procedures. Commissioners asked staff to contact a backup vendor (Bettis) if primary contractors are unavailable and requested further clarification on product differences such as CRS-TR (tire-rubber blended chip) versus CRS-HP.
