Board members pressed staff for a planning analysis showing whether surrounding boundary schools have capacity and how the magnet expansion might affect neighborhood high schools.
Administration said MAS is a districtwide magnet (not a boundary school), and that more than 200 applicants remain on the waiting list — a key rationale staff offered for adding seats. Substantial completion for the phase‑2 work is scheduled for November 2027, with students likely occupying seats in January 2028.
