ABAC schedules selection for external auditor as staff warns of tight May contract deadline

Summary
Staff told the committee it received four proposals for external auditing services and scheduled proposer presentations for April 21, 2026; members directed the chief auditor to prepare a contingency plan before the current contract’s mid‑May expiration if selection is delayed.
Staff reported the Audit and Budget Advisory Committee received four proposals for external independent auditing services and proposed a selection‑committee day on April 21, 2026 to review submissions, hear presentations and debrief.
"We received 4 proposals back last week Tuesday, from Carr, Riggs & Ingram LLC, Sherry Beckert LLP, Forvis/Mazars LLP, and RSMUS LLP," Miss Monfort told the committee while outlining the selection‑committee agenda.
Committee members pressed staff and the chief auditor about the timing because the current contract expires in mid‑May. Staff said the current contract includes a 90‑day extension provision to allow continuity if necessary but that the timeline had been stretched by protests and other procedural matters.
Given the schedule risks, the committee made a formal request that the chief auditor prepare a contingency recommendation for the May 19 ABAC meeting outlining steps the board could take if the new auditor is not in place by the contract expiry.
The selection committee date and proposers will be distributed to committee members and the district expects to bring a recommendation to the School Board in May or, if necessary, June.
