Planning staff outline timeline for zoning and subdivision code rewrite; public sessions to begin in May

City planning staff provided an update March 30 on a multi-chapter rewrite of the zoning and subdivision code, notifying the La Crosse City Plan Commission of the schedule for public outreach and council introduction.
Deputy Director Eklund said the subdivision ordinance (chapter 113) and the zoning code (chapter 115) will be repealed and then recreated; staff expect to receive the final subdivision draft imminently, will give staff three to four weeks for a last review, and plan to introduce the package to the council in the June cycle. "So our our what we're likely going to do is a repeal and recreate... we're gonna completely repeal chapter 113 and then recreate it as what is being proposed," Eklund said.
Eklund outlined public engagement plans: there will be no public information sessions before the April joint meeting; sessions start in May and will include events during housing week (May 4) and outreach with neighborhood commissions, the La Crosse Area Builders Association, the North La Crosse Business Association, the chamber and the diversity council. Staff said they will tailor sessions to audience groups and circulate drafts to the planning commission ahead of council introduction.
Next steps: staff will circulate the draft subdivision chapter to commissioners when available, schedule and run public information sessions in May, and plan council introduction for the June meeting cycle.
