Board approves short closure of 2nd and King for sanitary connection tied to Greenway work

Jamie told the Board the city needs to close the 2nd and King intersection in downtown La Crosse to perform a sanitary connection that was not stubbed out far enough during prior work. Jamie said crews expect to do the underground work and prep and pour concrete in about a week, with additional time for concrete curing; weather will affect the schedule and the overall closure was estimated at roughly two to three weeks.
Director Gallagher confirmed the closure is part of the neighborhood Greenway extension and that utilities and businesses were notified last year and again this week; notices from the contractor were dropped off to businesses. Jamie said the closure is intended to be as brief as possible to preserve public safety while allowing crews to complete the sanitary connection.
The board approved the closure request by motion and unanimous consent.
