Bannock County approves purchase of 140-horsepower tractor for Road & Bridge

Bannock County commissioners voted March 31 to buy a 140-horsepower tractor for the Road & Bridge department after staff presented dealer pricing and argued purchase was a better long-term value than renewed leasing.
Road & Bridge staff said comparable new tractors were listing near $150,000–$160,000 but that a dealer offered a reduced price; staff described a price “down to about $123,900” and recommended buying rather than renewing a lease that had recently been quoted at roughly $35,000. The department told the board the purchased tractor matches the department’s implements and will be more economical than continued leasing.
A commissioner moved to approve the purchase and the board approved the motion. The board also authorized the chair to sign the purchase contract when it is received so delivery can proceed.
The purchase will be funded from PILT money allocated to county equipment; staff said they will complete procurement paperwork and return any contract to the chair for signature so the tractor can be delivered.
