Committee moves ahead with bike/pedestrian counters; seeks remaining funding for July deployment

City staff told the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee they plan to purchase EcoCounter mobile and nano counters to support a new bicycle/pedestrian count program and to deploy counters by July if funding is secured.
The presenter said the initial cost for the system is $12,505 and that funding is secured for the first five-year run. Staff reported approval in concept by the steering committee and said they will ask the local Bluff/coalition to provide the remaining half of funding; the software license is included for five years and ongoing software costs thereafter were described as modest (approximately $100 per counter per year thereafter).
Staff described plans for mobile placement along a mix of corridors—Greenway/2nd Street, paved trails and natural-surface trails—and noted the counter system collects separate bicycle and pedestrian counts. Committee members suggested partnering with county or other groups that already have counters to expand coverage. If additional funding is secured, staff hopes to begin deployments in July.
