Superintendent highlights apprenticeship partnerships and reports graduation‑rate gains

Officials introduced Lois Seaman of Hammocks Middle School as the district’s January "innovative teacher," citing her leadership with the Verizon Innovative Learning Lab, Apple Coding Magnet and teacher mentorship work. The superintendent then recognized employer partners that support the district’s diesel and automotive apprenticeship programs and named several companies including Kelly Tractor Company, United Rentals and Warren Henry Automotive Group.
Dotres also reported the Florida Department of Education released the latest graduation rates, and the district’s rate rose to 93.1%, a 1.3 percentage‑point increase. He highlighted subgroup improvements — African American students and economically disadvantaged students each increased by 1.9 percentage points and English language learners rose by 3.9 points — and said the district’s graduation rate remains above statewide averages.
The superintendent noted the district’s career and apprenticeship expos registered more than 7,000 participants this year and thanked Miami‑Dade College and school principals for support. Board members congratulated teachers and staff.
