School board proclaims Biltmore Hotel’s 100th anniversary

The Miami‑Dade County School Board recognized the Biltmore Hotel on Jan. 14 with Resolution 26‑001, honoring the landmark’s centennial and its long history of partnering with local schools.
The chair introduced the item and invited Tom Prescott, representing the Biltmore family, to accept the proclamation. "It truly is an honor both personally and for the broader Biltmore family," Prescott said, noting that the hotel employs many local residents and supports school partnerships and events.
Board members recounted the Biltmore’s history — from its 1926 opening and role as a wartime hospital during World War II to later restorations — and praised the hotel’s community engagement, including hosting students and district events. Vice Chair Monica Gallucci and other board members thanked the Prescott family and approved the recognition by voice vote.
The presentation closed with a photo opportunity and applause.
