Shiawassee County commissioners OK $6.57M in warrants, several contracts, hires and public-safety purchases

At its Jan. 15 meeting, the Shiawassee County Board of Commissioners approved a series of routine but material administrative actions, including authorization of warrants totaling $6,566,943.26 and approval of several contracts, personnel changes and equipment purchases.
On a motion by Commissioner Garber, the board authorized warrants drawn from the treasury to cover invoice edit reports and payroll batches (including wire transfers, ACH and EFTs) totaling $6,566,943.26; the motion carried on a 7-0 roll-call vote.
The board approved a wage reopener with Circuit Court and contracts with District Court and Family/Probate Court as presented; each motion carried unanimously. The board also approved renewal of the county’s VMWare virtual-server contract for up to $8,702.40.
Personnel actions included confirmation of John Ryan to the Community Corrections Advisory Board and confirmation of Tony Newman to the Parks and Recreation Board. The board approved creating an additional research attorney position; Commissioner Howard successfully moved to amend the job description by striking item number 19 before the position was created.
Public-safety measures approved included purchase of three patrol vehicles in a total amount not to exceed $192,787 and replacement of the 911 UPS system. The board approved filling a maintenance position at grade two or three depending on experience.
Chairman Brodeur reported briefly on Community Mental Health and ongoing union negotiations. County Coordinator Dr. Boggs updated the board on contracts, audit preparation, reporting to the State Office of the Treasurer, Pleasant View bond counsel and development of new finance policies. Commissioner Shepard commented on current recycling programs before the board adjourned at 5:30 p.m.
Next steps: departments responsible for contracts, fleet purchases and IT equipment will proceed with procurement and implementation per the board’s approvals and the county treasurer will process the authorized warrants.
