Paul Luna, president and CEO of Helios Education Foundation, said Helios chose Broward because of the district’s scale and alignment with Helios’ equity goals. "We are honored to be here, not just to make an announcement, but to mark the beginning of what we believe will be a meaningful and lasting partnership for students across Broward County," Luna said.
Broward Education Foundation representatives told the board the initiative aims to strengthen college and career readiness, expand access to opportunity across some 80 schools and serve about 24,000 students each year. Helios said the investment will be paid over three years and will support FAFSA completion, advising, mentoring and family engagement efforts aligned to closing postsecondary attainment gaps.
The superintendent and foundation staff thanked Helios representatives and noted the partnership will be coordinated with district leadership and local school stakeholders to prioritize equitable reach across the county’s schools.
What’s next: district and foundation staff said they will present program details and distribution plans to ensure the funds reach schools and students equitably. A photo recess followed the announcement.
