Maywood trustees approve Village Manager contract, omnibus payments and allow new Class M liquor licenses

At its Sept. 4 meeting the Village of Maywood Board of Trustees approved several administrative and regulatory items, including the Village Manager employment agreement, an omnibus set of vendor payments, a code amendment to permit consideration of Class M (video gaming café/bistro) liquor licenses, and a community-partner playground agreement.

Trustees voted to approve a resolution authorizing execution of an employment agreement for Village Manager Willie Norfleet Jr. following a recommendation packet from Klein, Thorpe and Jenkins, Ltd. The Board then approved omnibus agenda items B–O, which authorized multiple vendor payments and contractual items (examples recorded in meeting materials include City of Chicago water charges of $673,992.20 and Blue Cross Blue Shield health insurance premiums of $286,912.82). One omnibus item (release of certain closed minutes) had been pulled and was approved separately.

The Board also passed an ordinance amending Title XI, Chapter 117 of the Village Code to permit consideration of new Class M video-gaming café/bistro liquor licenses; the motion carried with Trustee I. Brandon recorded as the sole nay. Trustees approved the semi-annual review of liquor-license holders (Trustee A. Sanchez abstained on that vote).

Finally, the Board approved a Community Partner Playground Agreement with the Maywood Park District, KaBoom! and a funding partner for equipment and surfacing at Winfield Scott Park (1800 S. Maywood Drive), including two addenda. The meeting recessed into closed session to discuss pending litigation, property sale/lease pricing and the Village Manager review, then reconvened and adjourned at 10:30 p.m.
