Summary
Trustees approved purchases including a new ambulance (not to exceed $114,182.50), accepted a $48,260 Seal Guard bid for Masonic Temple brick/cornice work, and authorized decommissioning and auctioning Ladder Truck 502; the fire chief will return with replacement specifics.
The Village of Maywood Board of Trustees approved several public-safety and public-works items during its Sept. 4 meeting, including the purchase of a new ambulance, acceptance of masonry repairs for the Masonic Temple, and action to decommission an unsafe ladder truck.
Fire Chief Craig Bronaugh Jr. sought Board approval to purchase a new ambulance through the Houston-Galveston Area Council cooperative purchase program for an amount not to exceed $114,182.50 and to auction the oldest ambulance to offset costs; the Board approved the purchase and waived the bid process. The chief also outlined that Ladder Truck 502 has a cracked frame and is unsafe; trustees authorized decommissioning and auctioning the truck and asked Bronaugh to return with detailed replacement options and cost estimates. Bronaugh said FEMA grants for replacement are limited by vehicle configuration and that neighboring departments provide mutual-aid coverage as a contingency.
Community Development Director David Myers reported that full restoration of the Masonic Temple cornice and brick would exceed the available budget (estimated $300,000). Staff recommended removing and storing the cornice for future reinstallation and replacing the two outer brick layers; Seal Guard, Inc. submitted the low bid of $48,260 and the Board approved acceptance of that proposal.
The Board also approved a motion to proceed with storm-sewer repairs on Madison Street (First Avenue to Des Plaines River) following an overview from Village Engineer Bill Peterhansen. Several votes on these items were unanimous among trustees present.
Trustees asked for follow-up information on replacement apparatus costs and potential funding sources before final procurement for a new aerial ladder truck.
