Maywood trustees move to advance Cook County 6B tax-incentive request from National Cycle

The Village of Maywood Board of Trustees voted on Sept. 4 to advance consideration of a Cook County Class 6-B (SER) tax-incentive request from National Cycle, a manufacturer at 2200 S. Maywood Drive, and asked staff and the company to provide detailed tax-revenue projections before the Board acts.

Representatives Patrick McGill and Barry Willey described National Cycle’s long-standing presence in Maywood and said the company intends to expand and employ local residents. Village Manager Willie Norfleet told the Board the proposed 10-year reduction would reduce taxable value by about $1.3 million if applied to the entire building; he also noted a previously approved 6B expansion reduced taxable revenue by $100,035. Trustee K. Wellington voiced opposition, saying the reduction would shift property-tax burdens to residents; Trustee I. Brandon and Trustee H. Yarbrough expressed support for the company and its local hires.

The Board’s motion directed Village staff and National Cycle to supply data on projected tax revenue related to the planned expansion and instructed the Village Attorney to prepare a resolution to be considered at the next regular meeting. The motion passed with Mayor Edwenna Perkins and Trustees H. Yarbrough, I. Brandon, A. Sanchez and R. Rivers voting aye and Trustee K. Wellington voting nay.

If the Board later adopts a resolution approving the Class 6-B designation, the tax incentive would be acted upon by the Village via a formal resolution and then processed through Cook County procedures; no final decision was made on Sept. 4.

The item will return to the Board with the requested revenue detail and a draft resolution for formal consideration.
