Crabtree explained Act 34 requirements (the state law governing public hearings for school construction or increases of more than 20% of building area) and said the district must advertise the public hearing and notify residents within 200 feet. The consultant presented an Act 34 maximum building construction cost of $8.2 million (addition/construction only) and listed other project costs (soft costs, contingencies, financing) that bring the maximum project cost to approximately $15.5 million. The Act 34 public hearing is scheduled for May 21 at 5 p.m. at Moreland Elementary; the board will consider the resolution that authorizes the hearing at its April 23 meeting.
