The Palmyra School Board on March 26 recognized transportation staff for intervening when a driver identified a potentially unsafe situation and ensured a student's safe return to family.
A staff member told the board that when a driver saw an unexpected vehicle in a driveway and felt uneasy about dropping a student off, she radioed the district transportation office and staff contacted the child's parents to confirm the student's safety. "The certificate of recognition is hereby awarded to Karen Knott in recognition of her exceptional care and dedication to student safety," the staff member said, and the board presented a certificate to Knott and acknowledged transportation staff including Carissa McGarity.
The board also used the meeting to celebrate student achievement in the district's STEM program. Staff described a February inter-school STEMBO competition for fifth graders that produced teams representing multiple buildings and noted Palmyra teams advanced to the IU 13 regional competition in March. Staff thanked teachers and coaches who supported the teams and named participating students.
Board members and administrators thanked the staff and students for the district's focus on safety and academic enrichment and invited guests to stay for the remainder of the meeting. The recognition items concluded with photos and certificates distributed to students and staff.
