Palmyra Area SD highlights student honors, $68,543 Mini‑Thon haul and May emergency drill

At its meeting the Palmyra Area SD board covered a series of superintendent‑level announcements celebrating student achievements and safety planning.

The meeting recognized the middle‑school March students of the month (Marissa Cassidy; Valerie Sholly; Kelsey Lehi) and highlighted other student accomplishments: Sophie Picciardo’s poem was selected in the Lebanon youth writing contest and published, Elijah Folks (sophomore, 107‑pound class) won a state wrestling medal — the district said it was the first state medal for Palmyra wrestling since 1988 — and Aubrey Smith, an 11th grader, earned a leadership award during the FIRST Robotics season. The presenter also said the middle‑school Mini‑Thon raised $68,543.02 for children and families battling cancer and the district’s mini‑thon committee aims for an approximately $75,000 fundraising goal at the high school.

On health and operations, the district reported that whole milk was reintroduced in school meals around March 1 under the "whole milk for healthy kids" guidance the presenter cited. The board was told the high school will host a full‑scale emergency exercise with law enforcement, EMS and fire on May 9 to test parent‑child reunification; the presenter asked for more parent volunteers and said initial signups were low.

Other highlights included announcing Daniel Romberger as the new principal at the Lebanon County CTC and praise for recent musical productions (the high school’s staging of Anastasia and the middle school’s Beauty and the Beast Jr.).

The board received these reports as part of routine superintendent and committee updates and took no formal action during this meeting.
