Chartiers Valley board accepts 2025 audit, small grants and approves several routine motions; calendar pulled for revision

The Chartiers Valley School District Board on Feb. 24 unanimously approved a set of routine finance and governance items, including acceptance of the June 30, 2025 audit, two $500 mini-grants from the Pittsburgh Teaching and Learning Collaborative, and payment of pre-construction invoices.
The board accepted the audit presented by Hosack, Specht, Muetzel & Wood and approved mini-grants awarding $500 to Chris Meyer for the Coffee Shop and $500 to Chris McHugh for the Art Room. Approval of pre-construction invoices was also recorded. Those motions were moved and seconded by board members as listed in the minutes and passed on voice votes.
Education items included approval of The Day School at the Children's Institute. The board approved the first reading of Policy 702.1 (Memorials) and the second readings of Policy 610 (Purchases Subject to bid/quotation) and Policy 626 (Procurement Federal Programs Attachment); all policy actions passed on voice votes.
The 2026–27 school calendar was pulled from the agenda after Dr. Castagna and Mr. DePace identified additional necessary changes; the district will revisit the calendar at a later meeting. The minutes record that no action was taken on the calendar item.
Informational reports included updates from SHASDA (no report), The Pathfinder School (Pathfinder ineligible for a facility improvement grant because it is a jointure district; Pathfinder has 81 students, six from Chartiers Valley), and Parkway West Career and Technology Center (summer camp June 17; graduation May 13, 2026 at Robert Morris University). Superintendent Dr. Daniel R. Castagna also reported that health insurance rates will increase by 8.3%.
The board adjourned at 7:07 p.m. and announced the next meeting for March 10, 2026 at Parkway West CTC.
