Greater Johnstown board approves Assistant Superintendent contract for Michael Dadey, several retirements and cyber‑school staffing changes

On a set of motions (PN-218 through PN-220-26) the board approved an Assistant Superintendent contract with Michael Dadey for the term Jan. 1, 2026 through June 30, 2030, at a salary of $140,000; the board also named Michael Dadey the district's Open Records Officer and approved a resolution authorizing him to sign Pennsylvania Department of Education contracts and grants. The roll‑call on those motions was recorded as six ayes and one abstention (Dadey stated his vote was family related).
The board approved a Memorandum of Understanding affecting the Technology Director's compensation (Act 93), appointed Brian Hasselbauer as Director of Physical Plant at a prorated salary of $73,000, and accepted retirements including Douglas Henry (principal) and others to be effective at the end of the school year. The board approved a sabbatical and compensated professional leave request (PN-247-26) and accepted other resignations and appointments for supplemental and support positions.
The board also approved a restructuring of Cyber School positions: one 2025–2026 Cyber School Elementary Teacher position was eliminated (PN-233-26) and two Cyber School teacher positions were created (Elementary Grades 5/6 and ELA Grades 7/8, PN-234-26). The minutes record that Cyber School teachers receive $9,000 for one course and an additional $3,000 for a second course (maximum two courses), and that the district has realized savings versus prior payments of more than $900,000 to outside cyber providers, a point raised by Les Paul Buchko.
Appointments to tutoring and after‑school academic support positions were approved (hourly rate $32), and several support‑staff Heavy‑Duty Cleaner positions were created and authorized to be posted. The board recorded multiple motions approving the hires conditionally contingent on required clearance documents.
