The Greater Johnstown Board of School Directors accepted the resignation of Director Edwin J. Mikesic (effective Jan. 9, 2026) and appointed Tony Belskey to fill the unexpired term through December 2027 at its Jan. 13, 2026 meeting.
Michael Allen moved to accept the resignation; Randy Lear seconded and the motion was carried on a voice poll with all ayes. Kimberly Murray then moved to appoint Tony Belskey to fill the vacancy; Randy Romesberg seconded and the appointment passed unanimously.
President Eugene Pentz thanked Mr. Mikesic for his service and said he was “100% for students” and would be missed. During the public comment period, resident John DeBartola urged the board to advertise the vacancy, said he had submitted multiple Right‑to‑Know requests (including payroll and enrollment records), and raised questions about a sabbatical request and the Crown Building motions on the agenda.
Solicitor Ronald Repak told the board there are multiple options for filling a vacant seat and noted that Act 44 requirements have been published in the School Code; he indicated the district has been complying with those requirements.
The appointment takes effect immediately; Belskey will serve until the municipal election in December 2027. The board held an executive session later in the meeting to consider personnel and related matters.
