Snyder City council approves February financial report showing $819,987 deficit

The Snyder City Council unanimously approved the city’s monthly financial report for February, the chair announced. The report showed $4,300,000 in revenues, $5,100,000 in expenditures and a resulting deficit of $819,987.

Council members were told the city had collected a three-month sales‑tax total averaging $329,587 and that 91% of budgeted current taxes had been collected through February. The chair noted one facade grant of $2,700 remained outstanding from prior commitments and that the city had already paid about $65,000 of $89,000 in committed facade grants.

The meeting focused briefly on a community service line item that was running at 113% of budget. One council member asked whether that spending would end soon; the chair said the overage was largely attributable to an unbudgeted community space and to previously committed facade grants, and confirmed those amounts had contributed to the department’s overrun. “That particular department is showing so high of the budget” because of the community project and facade payments, the chair said.

The council’s vote to approve the monthly financial report was taken after a motion and second; the chair announced the vote was unanimous. The council then recessed to an executive session for economic development negotiations under Texas Government Code 551.087 and reconvened briefly afterward with no action reported from the closed session.

The council received routine informational updates, including a personnel report noting an open maintenance-worker position in the street department and reminders about upcoming meetings on May 4 and a special meeting on May 11.
