The board on Feb. 17 approved a capital replacement proposal with Institutional Specialties, Inc. for a new electronic scoreboard at Memorial Stadium for $191,000, to be paid from the district bond issuance.
District facilities staff said the scoreboard had been removed from the main stadium construction contract to allow separate consideration and that the vendor contract is a CoStars purchase (PA‑CoStars Contract #032‑E22‑050). The board was told the scoreboard will have four sponsorship panels and the district intends to sell digital advertising before, after and during games with a stated goal of recouping the purchase cost within five years.
During the discussion board member Andrew Repko voiced concern about spending roughly $200,000 on a scoreboard while other maintenance items persist across the district, including recent roof leaks at elementary buildings. Facilities lead Kurt Thomas said leaks have been addressed with preventive maintenance and that the current scoreboard is about 25 years old.
The vote: the scoreboard proposal passed 6–2, recorded in the minutes. The motion was offered by Patrick Carney and seconded by Merle L. Musick.
Next steps: the district intends to offer sponsorship spaces and digital advertising and to integrate the scoreboard work with the broader stadium project schedule.
