Bryan council reviews advisory-board vacancies; some appointments postponed to January

The Bryan City Council reviewed multiple advisory-board vacancies at its workshop and identified nominees and deferred items ahead of formal action at a regular meeting.
Staff listed openings on the Bryan Business Council, Cemetery Advisory Board, Community Development Advisory Committee (two alternate spots), Parks & Recreation Advisory Board (two spots) and the Senior Advisory Committee, explaining some statutory requirements (the senior committee requires a minimum of six members).
A council member nominated Doug French for the Bryan Business Council. For Parks & Recreation, council members proposed Michelle Bright and Debbie Schmidt to fill two spots; one council member specifically noted Debbie Schmidt's local experience as a reason to support her nomination. For the Senior Advisory Committee, staff and council discussed reappointing Rick Starnes to meet the minimum membership requirement. Council also noted that an application from Marvin Kearney could not be found in staff's materials and staff said it would investigate whether the application had been submitted and misplaced.
Staff said some items (including appointments to the Bryan Brazos County Economic Development Foundation and cemetery advisory positions) will be postponed to January to allow more time for review. Council will finalize formal appointments at a subsequent regular meeting; no formal votes on appointments occurred at the workshop.
