During council questions, members asked whether restrooms and seating were included in the contract. Parks staff Frank Clark said restrooms were not included but that the pavilions will include picnic tables and that benches will be provided; exact bench locations will be coordinated with parks staff. Clark said some parents also use surrounding turf mounds to watch children at play.
Council members asked about the project—s funding. Parks staff said the Darwood Foundation (Doug and Cara French) donated $2,000,000 for the project, money council members said enabled the higher-quality scope under consideration. The contract amount on the agenda covers purchase and installation of equipment; restrooms and other site amenities not included in the bid will be considered separately.
A council member moved to approve the contract; the motion was seconded and passed unanimously.
Next steps: staff will finalize bench locations with parks staff and proceed with procurement and installation under the approved contract.
