City staff presented a list of deferred‑maintenance needs for Travis Major Field on Nov. 11 as the city prepares to take over operations from Infinity Sports on Jan. 1.
The presentation, led by a city parks operations staff member, said the immediate priorities are safety‑driven: new breakaway bases, backstop padding, dugout fencing and roof repairs, a PA system and equipment such as a drag mat and turf groomer for synthetic turf upkeep. Staff also recommended temporary outfield fencing to accommodate youth softball and batting‑cage infrastructure for practices. Capital items flagged for later discussion included shade structures, party decks, netting replacement and a replacement of the turf infill around bases and home plate.
The staff member told council the city expects some revenue from rentals but cautioned that the $103,000 figure presented is preliminary and based on limited information. “All this will not be done,” the staff member said, adding that rental activity will begin Jan. 12 and that the field will be used “as is” for initial rentals while work is prioritized.
Council members generally supported addressing safety and low‑hanging maintenance first and asked staff to return next week with a prioritized list after Rev Entertainment’s presentation. Mayor urged staff to identify items that can be monitored regularly so contractors or operators are held to maintenance promises in future agreements.
Next steps: staff will refine cost estimates and return to the council with more detailed proposals and prioritization after the entertainment group presents options next week.
