The Medford Common Council on March 23 approved a $2,200 transfer from the Recreation Nonlapsing account to the 2026 Recreation Commission budget to cover allocations approved by the Recreation Commission on March 17.
The Recreation Commission had approved funding requests for local youth and library programs including Medford Area Little League ($4,000), Medford Wrestling Club ($4,200), Medford Area Youth Hockey Association ($6,000), Medford Area Youth Football ($2,000), Frances L. Simek Memorial Library ($4,500), Medford Youth Soccer Association ($3,000), and Medford Girls Basketball ($2,500). The approved total exceeded the $24,000 Summer Recreation budget by $2,200. The commission recommended a transfer from the Recreation Nonlapsing account, which the minutes record as having a current balance of $29,552; if the transfer is recorded, the new balance will be $27,352.
A motion to approve the $2,200 transfer was made by Laura Holmes and seconded by Ken Coyer; the motion carried. The minutes cite the Recreation Bylaws as permitting a transfer from the nonlapsing account to the Recreation budget upon council approval.
