Summary
The Chartiers Valley board approved three construction change orders and accepted a Horizon technology bid totaling $1,421,100; it approved a $1,500 facilitator for an anti-bullying forum and tabled a tax-collector deputization at the Jan. 10 meeting.
At its Jan. 10, 2017 workshop/special action meeting, the Chartiers Valley Board of School Directors approved a series of construction change orders, awarded a technology contract for the middle-school/high-school project and approved a community anti-bullying facilitator, while tabling an item on deputizing a deputy tax collector.
Construction manager Jason Day reported that Phase 2B — located behind the cafeteria and food court where the new service elevator will be installed — has started and is anticipated to be complete by June 1, 2018. Day said middle-school structural steel erection is ongoing and that steel for the gym should be on site in early February; a bridge connector between structures remains to be built. At the high school, Day said the auditorium work is complete and in punch-list and closeout stages and that performing-arts drywall and Tech Ed work are progressing.
The board approved three construction change orders: Lugaila Mechanical Change Order #01 for $6,118 (motion moved by Mark Kuczinski, seconded by Sandra Zeleznik; voice vote 7–1), Rycon Construction Change Order #03 for $32,815 (moved by Mark Kuczinski, seconded by Eric Kraemer; voice vote 7–1) and Mucci Construction Change Order #04 for $33,357 (moved by Eric Kraemer, seconded by Mark Kuczinski; voice vote 7–1).
The board accepted the Technology Director’s recommendation and the construction manager’s recommendation to award the technology contract to Horizon for the base bid plus Alternates #1, #2, #4 and #5 for a total of $1,421,100. Scott Kelly, technology director, said the base bid covered installation and that several alternates were equipment-only; he told the board most items carried a standard one-year manufacturer warranty and said he could provide a full warranty list. Board members discussed pursuing extended warranties while buying in bulk.
On student-safety work, the board approved Rob Oliver as the facilitator for the Anti-bullying Task Force Forum at a cost of $1,500. Board members described the session as a working-session format intended to generate a needs assessment and concrete outcomes; Jamie Stevenson expressed skepticism about turnout and whether existing programs were effective, while Mrs. Patel and others said the purpose was to draw community input and identify next steps.
Item 2.9 — the appointment by Tax Collector Lisa M. Riley of Jordan Tax Service, Inc. as deputy tax collector for Scott Township (term Jan. 10, 2017–Dec. 31, 2017) — was discussed and tabled for a future meeting. The transcript records that Lisa Riley spoke about changes to property tax collection in Scott Township; the board did not approve the deputization at this meeting.
The session adjourned at 9:11 p.m.
