Albert Gallatin Area board approves routine finances, personnel actions and emergency plan; Kopas announces retirement

At its Nov. 19 meeting, the Albert Gallatin Area School Board approved routine business including the treasurer's report, payment of bills and payroll, personnel actions, facility-use requests, and an updated Emergency Operations Plan.
Board members approved acceptance of the treasurer’s report and authorized payment of prior-month obligations totaling $3,374,003.04, current general fund bills of $1,471,532.44, and cafeteria fund bills of $189,638.30. The board approved final payment of $55,994.44 to Omega Building Co. for the vestibule project.
The board granted blanket approval for Personnel motions A–K. Specific personnel actions recorded included hiring Kathleen Gruber as a bus monitor (effective Nov. 7, 2025); hiring cafeteria employees Vanessa Keiderling (4 hours) and Wendy Rosner (3.5 hours); awarding Amanda Chipps the Head Teacher position at George J. Plava Elementary; approval of coach hires (including named assistants and volunteers); approval of a hall monitor pay increase to $15.00 per hour; and acceptance of the retirement of elementary instructor Jennifer Kopas effective at the end of the 2025–26 school year. Superintendent Christopher Pegg thanked Kopas for more than 30 years of service and wished her a long, healthy retirement.
The board approved administrative items including additions to the substitute lists, multiple facility-use requests for school gyms and cafeterias, and an overnight band/choral trip to Pigeon Forge, Tenn., in April 2026 at no cost to the district. The board also approved enrolling the district in NRG Curtailment Solutions, Inc.'s PowerPay! program to curtail electricity use during demand response periods, and authorized two administrators and the Chief of School Police to attend the PA Safe Schools Summit in Pittsburgh (Dec. 8–9, 2025) at a cost not to exceed $1,800.
The board adopted the revised Emergency Operations Plan for emergencies and disasters (Resolution #1207-2025) and approved an agreement resolving special education services for a student identified as student X. Superintendent Pegg announced an upcoming School Consolidation meeting on Dec. 4, 2025 and reviewed the state process for closing school buildings.
