Commission hears staff updates; Aspen/Foch right-of-way abandonment postponed

At the Bryan City Planning and Zoning Commission meeting on Thursday staff provided several operational updates and summarized recent city council actions.
A staff member announced upcoming evening meeting dates (Dec. 4, Dec. 18, Jan. 15 and Feb. 19) and said Development Services and Engineering plan to move first-floor operations to the Development Center (the old BTU building) and aim to be open there around Dec. 15. The staff member said day-to-day operations such as permits, inspections and phone/email assistance should remain unchanged during the move.
The staff member also reported on items that had gone to city council: most items that came from Planning & Zoning passed council review, but a right-of-way abandonment for Aspen and Foch Streets — an item P&Z had recommended for approval — was postponed by council and is scheduled to return on Dec. 9. Staff said they are working on a policy for right-of-way abandonments as council directed.
On personnel, staff reported that Stephen Nash Porter had been appointed to fill Commissioner Beckendorf's seat and that Commissioner Rodriguez's seat will be filled at the next December meeting. Senior planner Katie Williams was not present; the commission agreed to postpone item 5b until she can attend.
A commissioner proposed discussing a dress code at a future meeting; the Chair responded that timeliness, not apparel, is the primary concern. The commission proceeded to other business after these updates.
