Council members debated criteria. Some members argued advisory boards should prioritize subject-matter expertise so appointees can meaningfully advise on technical or regulatory matters; others said council participation and diversity of perspective also have value. The chair said advisory boards should provide practical advice and not be political appointments.
Procedure: Appointments were moved to the end of the city’s second regular meeting for formal action; staff reminded council they cannot discuss these appointments in executive session and will provide application materials prior to voting.
