CTC culinary team to nationals; grants, facility projects and committee schedules highlighted

Board members heard a report that Central Westmoreland CTC's culinary team won the ProStart state competition and will compete at nationals, were briefed on facility design walkthroughs and summer 2026 projects, and were reminded that the Greensburg Salem Education Foundation grant period is open.
Board members heard a series of community and committee reports that emphasized student achievements, grant opportunities and facilities planning.
Chair reported that the Central Westmoreland Career and Technical Center culinary team won the ProStart competition at Penn State and will compete at nationals in Baltimore, where they will face 49 other schools. The chair described student participation and related events, saying the students will travel to Baltimore and participate in competition events over three days.
A representative of the Greensburg Salem Education Foundation (Miss Jim) reminded the board that the foundation’s grant period is open, announced a dedication of the distinguished alumni wall at the high school the next day and noted the distinguished alumni banquet on April 16 at Lakeview Lounge. A community development representative reminded members that applications for the hometown heroes banner are due and encouraged participation.
Facilities committee members reported on upcoming summer 2026 projects, an ADA restroom project, plans for Offutt Field and a conceptual-design firm’s walkthroughs of the high school and middle school. The design consultant team (Kimball and Bogart) has completed site walkthroughs and will convene another concept-design meeting ahead of mid-summer work.
Administrators also explained FMX — the newly onboarded facilities-management system for maintenance and athletic requests — as part of a conference/training discussion. The board was reminded of upcoming meetings (April discussion meeting April 15 at 7 p.m.; voting meeting April 22 at 7 p.m.) and of retiree recognition planned for June.
The meeting closed after a brief opportunity for citizen comments and a motion to adjourn.
