Greensburg Salem SD board approves consent agenda, personnel and policy updates after debate over attendance wording

The Greensburg Salem School District board voted to approve a broad consent agenda on March 4 that included minutes, the financial report, personnel appointments, contracted educational agreements and updated board policies.
Board President presided over the meeting and called for a series of motions that were approved by voice votes. Personnel items 9.1 through 9.5 were recommended by administration “pending final governmental clearances, medical tests, and certifications as applicable,” and a board member asked for clarification about item 9.5; district staff said that appointment’s date would run from 03/19/2026 through 05/07/2026.
The board debated proposed language changes in several board policies. One director raised concerns that redlined documents sometimes showed minor or unclear edits and questioned a change in attendance phrasing. Legal counsel responded that the updates, suggested by PSBA, were intended to align with recent legislative changes and to recognize that the person responsible for getting a child to school may not always be a parent or legal guardian. The counsel said, “Guardian is a very specific term for a legal relationship that’s established by a court, that gives a person the ability to exercise control over a minor.” Another director proposed alternative wording — “parent, guardian, or responsible adult” — and moved to table the policies until further clarification; that motion failed and the board approved the policies as presented.
The board also approved finance item 10.1 (a print application resolution) and contracted services item 11.1 (educational agreements). Conference/workshop requests including an FMX Regional Conference attendance and facility usage items were approved. Item 17.1 was approved to open a 28-day public review of the district comprehensive plan. The education committee meeting date under item 17.2 was approved by roll-call vote, 7 in favor and 1 opposed.
The meeting concluded with announcements of upcoming meetings and a recognition of retirees. The board adjourned following a final motion.
