The Bee Cave City Council unanimously adopted three separate resolutions authorizing applications to the Capital Area Council of Governments (CAPCOG) for federal grant funds to purchase police equipment.
A police official described prior successful awards and current needs. Staff and the police chief said the city previously secured two ballistic shields through a CAPCOG award in 2023 and is seeking additional equipment so that teams can have at least one shield per shift and to upgrade in-car radios. The staff presentation said CAPCOG acts as the pass-through entity for the federal funds.
Council members asked about coordination with nearby law enforcement and local school districts for active-shooter drills. The police chief said surrounding agencies, including Lake Travis and Lakeway, participate in frequent lockdown drills, and officers regularly coordinate with area schools.
Council considered the three resolutions (2026-13, 2026-14 and 2026-15) together but voted on each separately, approving all three motions. Councilors were advised that each resolution requires a separate motion because they are distinct grant applications even though they share the same funding source.
The resolutions authorize staff to apply for CAPCOG-administered funds for ballistic shields, rifle-resistant armor and criminal-justice program items including in-car radios; council did not discuss specific award amounts or guaranteed funding levels during the meeting.
