Retiring library director urges council to press ahead on new Bee Cave library

Barbara Hathaway, who has served as Bee Cave’s library director for two decades, delivered her final annual report at the Jan. 27 council meeting and urged the council to continue planning for a new library facility.
Hathaway recounted the library’s growth from a trailer (serving about 10,000 annually when it opened) to a facility now serving roughly 75,000 people a year, and she asked council to maintain momentum for a new building. “Please keep moving this forward,” Hathaway said, noting community demand and that “this community deserves it.”
Council members thanked Hathaway for her leadership and programs — including Citizens Police Academy and teen initiatives —and presented a proclamation recognizing her 20 years of service. Hathaway thanked staff, volunteers and past council members, credited the library advisory committee and friends group, and said she will remain involved as a community member.
Council did not take formal action on a capital plan at the meeting; several council members encouraged the CIP subcommittee and staff to continue working on options for a new library and associated funding strategies.
