The Adelanto City Council adopted an ordinance on May 8 to raise the city manager’s authorization to enter into contracts for personal, professional and consulting services from $30,000 to $75,000.
City attorney Todd explained the change is limited to non‑public‑works contracts and is permitted under state law; it is intended to allow the city manager greater flexibility to engage consultants and professional services without waiting for council approval for routine agreements. "The basic rationale … is to give more flexibility and efficiency to the city manager to enter into contracts as necessary," Todd said.
Council discussion noted rising costs and the need for efficient procurement; members who spoke said they had not seen questionable use of the authority in the past and supported the increase. The council moved, seconded and adopted the ordinance by voice vote; the meeting transcript records unanimous "Aye" votes from those present.
