Wayne County approves $18,000 dump truck, hears $14,449 LED retrofit and 245th Street bridge schedule

The Wayne County Board of Supervisors on July 8 unanimously approved adding a 2006 International dump truck with plow, purchased from the Iowa Department of Transportation for $18,000, to the county’s capital assets. The board set the vehicle’s useful life at six years.
Engineer Dillon Davenport told the board the Secondary Road Shop completed a lighting audit and plans to install new LED fixtures. After Alliant Energy rebates, the county’s net cost for the retrofit is $14,449, with an estimated payback of 4.4 years, Davenport said.
Davenport also reported two roadside mowers are operating across motor grader districts and the culvert crew is placing a rail tank car on 40th Street south of Highway 65. He said Durapatcher work is scheduled for next week but that the county is still trying to secure washed chips needed for the jobs.
On culvert lining, Davenport said the contractor has not yet signed the contract, and county staff are not permitted to contact the contractor until the contract is executed. He noted a preconstruction meeting is scheduled for July 14 for the 245th Street bridge project and that the late allowable start date for the project is July 20; the road will be closed while work is underway.
Supervisor Lance Lange moved the dump truck addition, and Supervisor Todd Wilson seconded; the motion carried unanimously. Unless otherwise noted, board motions in the July 8 session were approved unanimously by the three supervisors present (Chris Moore, Todd Wilson and Lance Lange).
The board approved the claims presented at the meeting and adjourned at 10:17 a.m. The next regular meeting is scheduled for July 22, 2025.
