Chippewa Falls board votes to move into closed session to consider employment matter following public statement

Following a public statement by Attorney Mary Kelm, the Chippewa Falls Area Unified School District Board voted to convene a closed session to consider an employment matter that the board said could ‘‘adversely affect the reputation of one or more persons if discussed in public.’’
The chair read statutory authority for the closed session, citing section 19.85(1)(a),(b),(c),(f) and (g) and section 18.125 of the Wisconsin Statutes to justify private deliberations about the employment/unemployment matter and any potential voluntary resolution or proposed resignation.
A motion to convene in closed session was made by Olson and seconded; the motion carried on a voice vote with board members answering ‘Aye,’ and the chair stated the motion was approved. The board then convened to closed session.
In open session, the chair also stated that following closed session the board could reconvene to open session to take any further action or entertain a motion to adjourn. No open-session disposition of the employment issue was recorded.
