Senate OKs change to motorcycle light color rules, approves personalized plates for women's teams

Senate Bill 1477 was taken up on third reading April 15 and passed after the sponsor described a narrow change to the motor-vehicle accessories statute and an added amendment creating a personalized license plate for women's sports teams.

"This is an extremely simple bill," said the Senator from the eleventh on the floor. "SB 1477 just does one thing. It updates our statute regarding color of lights for motorcycles. As it states right now, it's just amber and white. This will just change it to any color of illumination." The senator also noted an amendment added in cooperation with the senator from the seventh to allow a personalized license plate for women's soccer and future women's basketball teams.

Madam Secretary read the bill title as Senate Bill 1477, "an act relating to accessories of motor vehicles." The Senate recorded a final tally of 28 yes and 2 no and declared the bill passed by constitutional majority; titling and perfecting motions were noted as carried.
