Bee Cave council adopts canvass ordinances confirming November election and bond results

The Bee Cave City Council voted unanimously Monday to adopt two ordinances formally canvassing the returns and declaring results of the November election and a related bond election.
Miss Touchstone, the city elections staff member, told the council that Title 6, Chapter 67 of the election code governs the local canvas and that Travis County provides the official canvas, which includes provisional and mail-in ballots received after election night. "The canvas is the official tally of votes for any given election," she said, adding that results posted on election night are unofficial.
Ordinance No. 593 was presented to formally adopt the county-provided canvas and to address a matter related to a public-library authorization affecting real property described in the staff report as 21.067 acres (property ID number 873771). A council member moved to approve Ordinance No. 593, a second was recorded, and the council voted "Aye"; Mayor Kara King declared the motion carried unanimously.
The council then considered Ordinance No. 594, also to canvass returns and declare the results of the bond election. That ordinance was moved, seconded and carried by a unanimous voice vote.
After the ordinances passed, the council closed the regular meeting and entered executive session under Texas Government Code §551.071 to consult with the city attorney on pending litigation (recorded in the meeting as City of BKV, Texas v. WSCOS Development LLC, WSCUS Investments LLC and Velasas BKV JVLP, Cause No. D1GN24005113), advice regarding Ordinance No. 587 and its impact on local business applications, legal issues associated with current and future development agreements, and joint public-safety matters with Lake Travis Fire and Rescue. The council returned from executive session and subsequently took procedural votes before adjourning at 8:23 p.m.
