Town Manager Mike Renshaw said the town has begun establishing the Lawrence School Building Committee required by state regulation for communities seeking Massachusetts School Building Authority funding.
Renshaw explained the CMR regulation sets specific membership composition for the committee and that the Select Board, as the governing authority, has exclusive appointment power. He said the school committee will recommend two members for board consideration and that the board will consider additional required members, such as a local budget official and a school official familiar with building maintenance, at the March 23 meeting.
Moscally said it has been a long time coming and that the town recognizes the Lawrence School needs updating. The Select Board’s initial appointments and the committee’s work will position the town to apply for state funding where appropriate.
No final MSBA application or funding decisions were announced in the broadcast; appointment recommendations will appear on the March 23 agenda for formal action.
