The Ector County ISD Board of Trustees voted Jan. 20 to adopt middle-school boundary plan 5 for the 2026–27 school year following a staff presentation and trustee discussion.
Staff said plan 5 was discussed at a board workshop the previous week and that the recommendation includes grandfathering current seventh graders who would be affected — allowing them to remain at their current campus for eighth grade if they choose. The presentation also described an option for some students south of Interstate 20 to attend Odessa High School with their existing cohorts, even though high school boundaries are not changing.
During discussion trustees asked for clarification about which neighborhoods would be affected, how grandfathering would be documented, and the likely number of impacted students. Staff estimated approximately 400 students might be affected and said additional communications to impacted families would follow once the district identified those students in the student information system.
A trustee moved to adopt boundary plan 5 and another seconded; the motion passed by voice/hand-raise vote as recorded in the public transcript. Administration said the next steps include entering boundary changes into the student information system and communicating directly with impacted families as the district plans staffing and logistics for the coming school year.
