Ector County ISD approves memorandum with Sunset Youth Golf Center to support youth programming

The Ector County ISD Board of Trustees on Jan. 20 approved a memorandum of understanding with the Sunset Youth Golf Center, a community nonprofit, after hearing presentations from organizers and community supporters.
Sarah Moore, representing the nonprofit, and other community members described the project as a community-driven effort to preserve a local golf facility and provide youth programming, including lessons, etiquette instruction and opportunities for students to engage with community mentors. Presenters emphasized the project’s community support and the role of local volunteers, merchants and an architect (KDC Associates) who has agreed to assist with planning.
Renowned local figures and community volunteers spoke in favor of the project. One presenter said the facility would provide lessons and life skills and preserve a neighborhood landmark; another speaker described the positive mentoring and participation seen in similar projects in other Texas communities.
Trustees moved and seconded approval of the proposed MOU between Ector County ISD and the Sunset Youth Golf Center; the board voted in favor as recorded in the transcript. Administration thanked the presenters and acknowledged the role of Permian and Odessa High School golf teams attending the meeting.
The MOU approval enables district staff and community partners to continue planning and formalize collaboration.
