Summary
The township committee adopted a resolution appointing eight police officers and administered the oath during the meeting; the police chief praised recruitment efforts and outlined expectations for training and professionalism.
Egg Harbor Township formally appointed and swore in eight new police officers during the April 1 meeting after the committee adopted Resolution 163.
The clerk read the appointees' names into the record: Francis Wright, Diego (spelled variously in public remarks), Joseph Hughes, William Delcher (Deckler in the read list), Daniela Nunez, Cameron Viola, Lucas Engel and Anthony Martino. The committee adopted the appointments by roll call; the new officers and some family members came forward for the oath.
Police leadership and officials offered congratulatory remarks. The police chief (speaker 16) described the multi-stage recruitment and vetting process — written and physical exams, background checks, oral interviews with command staff and governing body, and medical and psychiatric exams — and emphasized expectations of integrity, professionalism, fitness and community service. "For you eight to reach this moment ... you are here to save lives by engaging in regular traffic enforcement efforts," the chief said.
Residents and committee members praised the recruits and described the swearing-in as a milestone for the department. The mayor invited the new officers to remain for photographs following the formalities.
What’s next: the new officers will continue through required academy training and licensing steps; the township said liaisons will be available while recruits attend the academy.
