Carroll County says laundry facility is on schedule; commissioners approve $54,091.19 reimbursement request

Carroll County officials reported April 20 that work on a new county laundry facility is progressing on schedule and authorized submission of a $54,091.19 reimbursement request connected to the project.

Director Murray told the commission that rough plumbing, HVAC, sprinkler, electrical and low‑voltage work were complete, interior insulation and sheetrock were in place, painters were scheduled, exterior brickwork and window installations were finished and a modified completion schedule targets June 15. "As of today, as of this morning, the rough plumbing, HVAC, sprinkler electrical, and low voltage is complete," Murray said.

Staff asked the commission to authorize submission of a reimbursement request for $54,091.19, described in the meeting as part of the county's 40% reimbursement share for the laundry project. A commissioner moved, a second was recorded and the commission approved submitting the reimbursement request. "I move we submit this reimbursement request for... $54,091.19," a commissioner said; the motion passed on voice vote.

Commissioners questioned project costs and the expected return on investment, noting discussion that the facility's total cost figure had been described earlier in the meeting as approximately $1.8 million with reimbursement of roughly $885,000 under the grant arrangement. Staff said final accounting and incremental reimbursements would continue as construction milestones are met.

The commission approved the reimbursement submission and directed staff to continue project oversight and report progress to the board.
