Kewanee council approves demolition, industrial‑park sale, library block‑party closure; tables three labor contracts

Among votes taken, the council:
- Approved Bill 25‑26 to award demolition of a dilapidated house at 618 N. Jackson to NRE Land Solutions, LLC; Community Development Director Keith Edwards said remaining grant funds would not fully cover the cost and additional grant funding is uncertain.
- Approved Bill 25‑32 to authorize execution of documents to sell real property in the newly established Northeast Industrial Park; the parcel will be platted for sale and Great Dane has expressed interest in extending property used to park completed trailers.
- Approved a street closure requested by the Kewanee Public Library for a May 17 block party affecting approximately 12–15 parking spaces.
- Approved purchasing/bill payments and the consent agenda, including payroll and staff reports.
Separately, the council tabled Bill 25‑27 (IAFF Local 513), Bill 25‑28 (FOP Lodge 233) and Bill 25‑29 (AFSCME Local 764) after members requested detailed financial breakdowns showing how each contract would affect city funds; the motion to table passed 5‑0.
Councilmember communications included a farewell from longtime Councilmember Steve Faber, who said this will likely be his last council communications after nearly 49 years in government; the council and mayor offered thanks. Mayor Moore congratulated the Kewanee High School music department on a state championship and noted recent community events.
