The Marlboro County Council voted on Aug. 12 to set millage rates for fiscal year 2025–26 and authorized the county auditor and county administrator to set the lost-credit factor tied to reappraisal adjustments.
Dr. Damien Johnson, council member, moved to approve Resolution 08-25-01 and Lafeyette Jackson seconded. The motion passed with four members recorded as voting yes (Steve Blackmon, Lafeyette Jackson, Anthony Woods, Dr. Damien Johnson), one opposed (Jason Steen), one abstention (Pearly Lawson) and one council member absent for the vote (Verd Odom). The minutes show the tabulation as 7/1/1.
Finance Director Wes Park and Mr. Kep Kepley briefly described the county reassessment process and said the reassessment would likely increase property tax bills for some taxpayers because of higher assessed values; the council did not adopt specific dollar changes to individual tax bills at the meeting.
The resolution authorizes county staff to set the lost-credit factor needed to implement the approved millage rates after reassessment. No timetable for final tax-bill notices was specified on the record; staff will publish tax-rate implementation details in keeping with state procedures.
