Maywood approves backhoe, air-compressor purchases and LED lighting upgrade

The Village of Maywood Board of Trustees approved three public-works expenditures June 5 intended to replace aging equipment and improve municipal facility lighting.
Public Works Director John West recommended replacing the village’s existing backhoe with a Case 580 Super N loader/backhoe for $84,995, including a $10,000 trade-in. Trustees approved the purchase after West said continued repairs of the current unit would not be cost-effective. The board also approved buying a Mobilair M58 portable air compressor from Delta Industries for $22,612; West said that model had performed well when rented for prior operations.
Separately, the board accepted a $9,671.68 incentive from ComEd and authorized Twin Supplies, Inc. to upgrade interior lighting in the 200 Multi-purpose Building (gymnasium, office and first-floor hallways) to sensor-ready LED fixtures. The lighting upgrade was presented as an energy-efficiency measure that reduces operating costs and improves facility illumination.
All three purchases were approved by roll call with Mayor Edwenna Perkins and the present trustees voting in favor. The purchases were authorized with motions to waive competitive-bid requirements where noted and are to be administered by the Public Works Department.
The Board did not discuss detailed delivery timelines or replacement schedules during the meeting; Public Works staff will finalize procurement terms and implement the upgrades.
