San Bruno publishes spring 2026 construction update as major housing and commercial projects advance

San Bruno City released a spring 2026 construction update detailing progress on multiple major projects across the city, including a new auto dealership, a large affordable-housing development that relied on a state law height exception, expansion at the YouTube campus, and several for-sale housing projects with near-term openings. The presenter said the projects will add housing, support local businesses and generate tax revenue for city services.

The Cardenale Hyundai and Genesis dealership at El Camino Real near the 380 Freeway entrance has topped off, the presenter said. "Once complete, this 3 story, 171,000 square foot facility will serve as a major economic driver, generating sales tax revenue that supports city services." Interior and exterior finishes and site work are now the primary focus, with construction on track for completion in early summer 2026.

At The View at San Bruno, cranes are actively building the Western Building while foundation work begins on the Eastern Building. "Because this project is 100 affordable, it was able to use state law to exceed the city's 5 story height limit, reaching approximately twice the height otherwise permitted," the presenter said. The project will include two 10-story buildings and 341 affordable units, with an expected completion in fall 2027.

On Cherry Lane and Bay Hill Drive, construction of phase 1 of the YouTube campus expansion continues. The presenter said the phase will add two new office buildings totaling 440,000 square feet plus underground parking as part of the Bay Hills Specific Plan. Exterior work is on track to be finished in 2026, with interior work to follow.

In the city's western area, the Highland Ridge townhome development is under way. The presenter noted site landmarks (Lunardi's and the nearby Econo gas station) for orientation, and announced a four-way stop is now in effect at Glenview Drive and San Bruno Avenue West. A second building at Highland Ridge is under vertical construction, and a sales gallery/model unit is planned to open this month; the project will deliver 58 townhomes, with the first homes expected this spring.

At the Crestmore project, infrastructure work continues to prepare the site for 155 single-family homes. Cortland Avenue work — including utility installation, curb, sidewalk and paving — is in progress, home designs are available online, and the city is planning an on-site sales office after paving, with a target public grand opening in June.
