Commission appoints Tyler Cole to Planning Commission, reappoints Chris Cox to Historic Landmarks Commission

The Berkeley County Commission appointed Tyler Cole to the county Planning Commission after interviewing him about his experience and availability to attend meetings. Cole, a Hedgesville native who works in operations for MSC Hauling and Excavating and serves as a loadmaster in the Air National Guard, told commissioners he is willing to meet twice monthly and that his business experience would help bring field perspective to planning discussions.

Chair and commissioners asked Cole about his mission and strategic goals. He said he would learn the technical rules, dig into details, and offer suggestions to help the county manage growth while balancing infrastructure needs and community benefits. Commissioners expressed appreciation for a younger applicant willing to serve and confirmed his attendance commitment before moving and approving his appointment.

In a separate agenda item, the commission reappointed Chris Cox to the Historic Landmarks Commission. Cox, who holds a master's degree in history and serves on related local preservation bodies, said preservation must be balanced with economic realities and urged finding middle ground when possible. The commission moved and approved his reappointment by voice vote.
